Becoming a more Conscious Consumer!
We are constantly on the lookout for new and innovative ways to create more sustainable and earth-friendly beauty routines at Boho and in our own homes and daily lives.
Here are our top 5 sustainable beauty practices that we live by and encourage you to try…
1. Up-Cycle Your Empty Bottles
Wash out those empty bottles, cut them down to size and use them for anything…from mini planters dotted around the house to makeup brush holders, hair tie containers, and more. The sky is the limit!
2. Look For Products That Are Sustainably & Ethically Made
If you’re looking for an easy-to-adopt practice, this is a great place to start! As you come to the end of your current products and get ready to shop again, consider switching to products that are made ethically and sustainably.
Read the labels! Avoid products containing parabens and synthetics. Look out for labels that indicate ethical sourcing, cruelty free, vegan and recycled & recyclable packaging. Where possible, go package free! And, consider shopping small and local…these businesses commonly invest heavily into ethical sourcing, sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint.
3. Go Package Free…
…or at least purchase products with eco-friendly packaging. The convenience of packaging has become a norm in society. But, the truth is that we each have the power to choose the products we purchase. Have you ever consciously tried to look out for and choose the products with either eco-friendly or no packaging?
It can be a challenge. But, luckily we have a brilliant range of hair care products with the most sustainable and eco-friendly packaging. Pop into Boho and we would happily show you some of our favorites.
4. Cut Down On Water Usage
Did you know that turning off the tap when brushing your teeth could conserve up to 4 gallons of water per day?! Even better, if you turned off the water when washing your hair, you could be saving up to 150 gallons of water per month. Why not do both and save around 3,000 of water per year?
This is a seemingly small resolution in your beauty routine that has a huge benefit to our planet. Avoiding water wastage helps to conserve energy and reduce carbon pollution.
5. Shop Cruelty Free
For most of us, this seems like a no brainer. Of course our hair care products are cruelty free! Animal cruelty doesn’t take place in product production anymore. But sadly, this is not the fact. There are still many beauty brands that do test their products on animals, which not only means that the animal is not free…it also means that its life is ended when it has ‘served its purpose’.
So, start reading the labels. Look out for the certified bunny label on packaging for an indication that no animals have been harmed. Do your research and make yourself aware before you decide what to buy.
Remember… small changes for a big, long-term impact. Have questions? Pop into Boho to find out more about how to shop consciously… we have sourced the absolute best brands that take all of these practices into account, which makes your shopping journey simple… and your hair will thank you for it too!
